Backlink lanes: mentions, competitors, directories

How the Backlink Builder finds prospects in five lanes, and what each lane means.

5 min read Intermediate

Every campaign run discovers prospects through separate lanes, so you can see WHY a site was picked and filter by lane in the review queue. Nothing is ever sent automatically; every email needs your click.

  • Authority index: on-topic domains mined from the 10M-domain authority dataset, ranked by real DA.
  • Search: link-intent queries (guest posts, resource pages, roundups) via live SERP data.
  • Unlinked mention: pages that already name your brand but do not link to you. The agent opens each page and keeps only genuine unlinked mentions, then writes a short reclamation ask instead of a cold pitch. These are your warmest leads.
  • Competitor gap: sites that cover your competitors and could cover you too.
  • Directory: opt-in submission sites from a curated, DA-ranked list (see the directory guide).

Reading a prospect row

  • The score combines domain authority and topical relevance, with a bonus for warm lanes.
  • The lane label under the domain shows how the prospect was found; the pills above the list filter by lane.
  • Statuses: found, contacted, submitted (directories), replied, won, skipped. The link monitor flips the dot to live when your link appears.

Fill in your Customer Profile (Research, Customer Profile in the sidebar) first. Both manual and overnight autopilot runs use it to angle every pitch at who you actually serve.
